History of Ubatuba

Ubatuba is a coastal city located in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is believed that its name comes from the Tupi-Guarani language and means "place with many canoes."

It was founded in 1637 by the Portuguese and became an important commercial port during the 18th and 19th centuries, due to its strategic location on the Atlantic coast.

During colonial times, the city was a center of sugarcane and coffee production, and fortifications were also built to protect it from attacks by pirates and other invaders.

Today, Ubatuba is a popular tourist city for its beautiful beaches, waterfalls, mountain trails and its rich biodiversity. It is also known for its annual traditional food festival called "Festival da Tainha".
