Ouro Preto (which in Spanish means Black Gold) is located in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Southeast Region of Brazil.
It is at an altitude of 1179 meters above sea level.
It is one of the most important cities in the history of Brazil, housing several of the most relevant monuments of the 'Gold Cycle', in addition to having been the capital of Minas Gerais until the inauguration of Belo Horizonte in 1897.
It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
